The Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Visa is a work visa introduced by Japan in April 2019 to address labor shortages in specific industries. It allows foreign workers to take up jobs in sectors that need skilled labor, offering opportunities to work and gain experience in Japan.

 

SSW Visa for Nepali Workers

Nepal is among the countries whose workers are eligible to apply for the SSW Visa. This program covers 14 industries, including caregiving, agriculture, construction, hospitality, manufacturing, and food services.

 

Eligibility for Nepali Workers:

  • Must pass a skills test for the related sector.
  • Must clear a Japanese language test: JLPT N4 or JFT A2 Level.
  • Age requirement: 18 years or older.
  • Must be medically fit to meet health standards.
  • No educational qualifications are required.

 

Categories of SSW Visa

1. Food Service Visa

This visa allows workers to join Japan’s food service industry, including restaurants and food establishments, for up to 5 years.

  • Requirements: Pass the food service skill test and a Japanese language test (JFT A2 or JLPT N4).
  • Key Points: 
    • Gain professional experience in Japan’s food industry.
    • Learn about Japan’s rich food culture.
    • This visa does not lead directly to permanent residency or allow bringing family members.

 

2. Nursing Care Visa

The Nursing Care Visa enables individuals to work in Japan’s caregiving sector, such as nursing homes and care facilities, for up to 5 years.

  • Requirements: Pass the caregiving skill test and a Japanese language test (JFT A2 or JLPT N4).
  • Key Points: 
    • Work involves assisting elderly and disabled patients with daily activities and ensuring their well-being.
    • Offers valuable experience in Japan’s expanding caregiving industry.
    • This visa does not lead to permanent residency or allow family reunification.

 

. Agriculture Visa

This visa focuses on Japan’s agriculture sector, covering two main areas: crop farming and livestock farming.

  • Requirements: Pass the agriculture skill test and a Japanese language test (JFT A2 or JLPT N4).
  • Key Points: 
    • Crop farming involves growing and harvesting crops, while livestock farming includes raising and caring for animals like pigs, chickens, and cows.
    • The visa is valid for 5 years and provides hands-on farming experience.
    • Does not lead to permanent residency or family reunification.
